Jagdfliegergeschwader-9 "Heinrich Rau" - Fliegertechnisches Bataillon-9 "Käthe Niederkirchner" - Zieldarstellungskette-33 - Funktechnisches Bataillon-33. The author Manfred Kanetzki has revised this 2nd edition thanks to newly discovered local archival sources, publications in Russian specialist literature and archival material from NARA (CIA reconnaissance reports) and so the period 1945 to 1959 could now also be presented. The book is thus a substantially revised edition of the first edition. Of course, as in the first edition, it primarily deals with the history of JG-9 "Heinrich Rau", but the development of Peenemünde Airfield during the National Socialist era and during the period of stationing of Soviet air forces after World War II is elaborated more extensively. The other units of the LSK/LV and their locations on the island of Usedom are also included. Reports by pilots describe their experiences in the air defence system of the Warsaw Treaty countries, in combat shooting in the Soviet Union and in daily combat training. The Jagdfliegergeschwader 9 was in the front line of the GDR's air defence forces and thus had constant contact with NATO fighter and reconnaissance aircraft as they approached the GDR's state border.
