Gladiators in ancient Rome were professional fighters who fought each other in public displays. Gladiatorial combat not infrequently ended in the death or at least serious wounding of one of the combatants and could take place either between man and animal or man and man. This work shows the recruitment, training, fighting and equipment of the gladiators of ancient Rome.
