The Hitler Youth (HJ) turned German children into ardent supporters of National Socialism. Even though the HJ was not a military unit, paramilitary activities were an important part of its education. Members of its female counterpart, the "Bund Deutscher Mädel" (BDM), were also conscripted for military duties in the final stages of the Second World War. In this account, the reader follows the children from their initial indoctrination to their actual training. This examination of National Socialist culture provides the reader with a complete insight into the preparatory training and direct involvement of German youth in military service under the pressure of war.
