Ryurik; Old Norse Hrrikr berühmter ruler; * c. 830; c. 879) was a Warägian Fürst and is considered the founder of the Old Russian state of Kievan Rus. He is said to have ruled from 862 to 879 über Novgorod as well as the land between the rivers Neva and Oka. Oleg the Wise, who is said to have held the reign as regent for Ryurik's son Igor, is regarded as his successor.
