Description
In ancient times, boyars were considered nobility in Russia, but their titles were not hereditary and they also had no fixed land ownership. They were allowed to elect an advisory council to the Fürst, the Boyarenduma, and formed a standing bodyguard of the Großfürst. As early as the 14th century, the nobility were given güter äz zur Nutzungô überlassen ľ i.e. not as a permanent possession, because this remained in the hands of the Großfürsten ü. In the 15th century, after the Großfürst of Moscow had assumed the title äSelbstherr aller Reußenô, the boyars and the dethroned descendants of the Rurik from the smaller Fürstentümern became a service nobility, obliged to serve the tsar as officials or officers. -Wikipedia-
