Iwan Sirko, * 1610 in Merefa; Ä 1680 in Hrushivky) was a Ukrainian ataman of the Zaporozhian Cossacks and a figure around whom many legends were created in the period that followed. Ivan Sirko inspired the Russian painter Ilya Repin in the 19th century to create his well-known painting The Zaporozh Cossacks Write a Letter to the Türk Sultan.
