The French Resistance has produced numerous publications dealing with its underground organisations, its leaders and the social groups that made it up. However, very few works deal with the objects that made up the everyday lives of the resistance fighters. The objects were not studied for their own sake, but mostly served as decontextualised illustrations of scientific statements. This book therefore aims to highlight the conditions of the underground struggle by presenting the history of around 50 symbolic objects of the French Resistance.
Following the technical background to their creation, these objects are very often accompanied by statements from resistance fighters recalling their use in the underground. The book also shows how these objects have left a lasting mark on the collective memory of the French thanks to cinema, literature and the memories of those involved.
