The year is 1539: Hernando de Soto lands on the coast of Florida with battle-hardened, heavily armed soldiers. Even after the conquest of the Inca Empire, the conquistadors' greed knows no bounds. Their goal is to increase the glory and wealth of the Spanish crown. The pale, bearded newcomers, who call themselves Kristianos, exert a strange fascination on Black Shell, an exiled trader from the Chickasaw tribe. Only when he comes face to face with the brutality of the Kristianos does Black Shell realise the full extent of the danger these invaders pose to his people's way of life. Although his first impulse is to run as far away as possible, Black Shell is called to a greater destiny by a spirit being named Horned Serpent: he must find a way to unite the scattered tribes and settlements of his homeland and defeat the merciless soldiers of the conquistador Hernando de Soto.
