The Biriciana fort at Weissenburg in Bavaria is one of the best-researched fort sites on the Raetian Limes in Bavaria. Located in the hinterland of the Limes, its garrison protected a wide area on the Roman border with the Germanic tribes. A large civilian settlement developed in the vicinity of the fort, where one of the largest and best-preserved thermal baths in southern Germany was discovered.
The so-called Weissenburg Roman treasure, found by chance during gardening work, is also unique in Germany in its splendour and composition. For the first time in almost 30 years, a new guide to Fort Biriciana and Roman Weissenburg is now published, reporting on new research findings and using modern reconstructions to bring the period at the Limes in Middle Franconia to life.
