Until about 15 years ago, the existence of a Roman province of Germania magna, or one in the process of being created, was largely rejected by historical researchers. The thesis was that the Romans had only been sporadically involved on the right bank of the Rhine and on the right bank of the Weser. All archaeological finds were attributed to trade relations. In recent years, significant Roman remains have been excavated on the right bank of the Weser - in the so-called Elbe-Germanic area - which more than shake this thesis.

The author reports on this in this book. In addition, he cites ancient texts by Roman authors that relate to this and sometimes attempts to interpret them. He cites numerous finds, researchers and authors who have now largely fallen into oblivion. All in all, Bernd Sternal's aim with this small work is to inform about this period and perhaps to stimulate new ways of thinking. The life of the Romans in Central Germany could be almost as exciting as that of the Romans on the left of the Rhine and the Limes. Even though there will certainly be no comparable cultural legacies to be found in the central German region.
The book is illustrated with 8 maps, one of them in colour, and 30 illustrations.
