The origin of the Bavarians has been and still is the subject of passionate debate in scientific research and at regulars' tables since the 19th century. Today, archaeological research can provide a clear answer. The Bavarians were already multicultural and internationally networked 1400 years ago. They did not appear in a quasi vacuum, but in a landscape that had been settled and reshaped by humans thousands of years before. Thanks to the most modern scientific research methods, such as DNA analyses of skeletons and neutron tomography of Bavarian swords, we obtain a very differentiated view of the living environment of the Bavarians.
