The account begins with the position of Finland during World War I and the history of the Prussian Jäger Battalion No. 27, which consisted of Finnish volunteers. The subsequent sections then deal with the Finnish-Russian Winter War of 1939/1940 and the history and operations of the Finnish Volunteer Battalion of the Waffen-SS until its disbandment at the end of April 1943.
