Old Shatterhand is a fictional character in Western novels by German writer Karl May (18421912). He is the German friend and blood brother of Winnetou, the fictional chief of the Mescalero tribe of the Apache. Engraving: Romund.
He embodies the infallible hero. In most novels, the adventures in the Wild West are experienced together with the Indian Winnetou. Old Shatterhand owned two distinctive rifles: the "Henrystutzen" (a rifle that could be fired 25 times without reloading) and the "Bärentöter" (a very heavy rifle that could even kill a bear with one shot at long range).
