The Pennsylvania Campaign of the Army of Northern Virginia under General Robert E. Lee and the famous Battle of Gettysburg are described in this publication from the perspective of Union General George A. Custer. Reports and remarks by contemporaries alternate with the author's account of the course of cavalry operations in the months of June and July 1863. All the important stages of the campaign are outlined, and Custer's role within the operations is made clear. The work is illustrated by a mixture of contemporary bw photographs and illustrations as well as modern colour photographs and reproductions of modern illustrations, including paintings by Don Troiani.
