The Russo-Japanese War of 1904/1905 was the first major conflict between great powers in the 20th century, and foreshadowed the direction future wars would take. For the first time, capital ships clashed at sea, as they were to be used in a similar form only ten years later in the First World War. Other new types of naval ordnance, such as sea mines, torpedoes and even submarines, were used for the first time. This second volume on naval warfare during the Russo-Japanese War looks in detail at the planning, conduct and consequences of the naval battle of Tsushima.
