Illustrated with a large number of photographs, this work describes the course of the operations to conquer the Volga metropolis of Stalingrad in the summer, autumn and winter of 1942. The battle for Stalingrad is embedded in the overall context of further operations in the southern section of the Eastern Front, such as the advance on the Caucasus to capture important oil deposits or the conquest of the Donets Basin, which was also important for armaments.
