Volume 6 completes the story of the foreign aircraft that the USN and USMC had to rely on to go into battle in the First World War. France was the focus of USN activities, where many bases were established, equipped with French aircraft until Curtiss flying boats arrived in sufficient numbers to replace them. The experimental aircraft in which the USN was interested are covered, as is the post-war career of some of these aircraft in the USN's flying boat units.
