The Naval Construction in the Works of Rafael Monléon Torres. The development of civil and military shipbuilding is documented through the works of the Spanish painter Rafael Monléon Torres. A total of 89 of his watercolours are shown and explained with a view to shipbuilding developments. The chronological and thematic framework ranges from the papyrus and wooden boats of the ancient Egyptians to the gun-toting, steel cruisers and battleships of the First World War. Most of the watercolours are accompanied by bw drawings illustrating fundamental technical changes in ship design.
