The first volume of this history of shipbuilding describes in about 110 pages the shipbuilding developments from early times (Egyptians, Phoenicians etc.) to the end of the 19th+. Century. A large number of ship and boat types are presented with their essential design features. Volumes 2 and 3 are the illustrated volumes, which document the ship and boat types described in the text as well as the technical progress in shipbuilding in pictures by means of a total of 427 b/w and colour drawings.
