Part 3: Axe weapons, Sax, pole and bow weapons
Under the successors of King Dagobert I, who had still been a strong ruler, the power of the Merovingian monarchs increasingly dwindled. Thus, in the Frankish sub-kingdoms, the house monarchs effectively took over the government, while the individual tribal duchies developed ever greater independence. Finally, the Austro-Asian Duke Pippin succeeded in taking over the central house-meier office and thus rose to become the actual ruler of the Frankish Empire.
In this third volume, Sax, axe and pole weapons as well as bows and arrows of the troops serving in the Frankish army are dealt with in detail. This time the graphic reconstructions show late Merovingian warriors on foot and on horseback from the period of the 7th century.
