Very comprehensive biography of FitzRoy James Henry Somerset, the first Baron of Raglan, best remembered by today's historians and those interested in military history for his inglorious role in the infamous attack by the British Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaklava. However, this event comes at the end of his fifty-year military career (1804-1855), which is described here in all its facets. His role in the Napoleonic Wars, where he served under Sir Arthur Paget and the Duke of Wellington in Spain, among others, is discussed, as is his work in various army posts after the wars against Napoleon I, where he contributed to the changes in the British military system. Of course, his role in the Crimean War is also comprehensively covered.
