First volume of a triptych on the history and uniforms of the Italian Guardia di Finanza, from its foundation in 1862 under the name Guardia Doganale to the beginning of the new Italian Republic in 1946. This first volume covers the period between 1862 and 1908. The uniform introduced in 1862 for the newly formed customs police was based on that of the Preposti delle Regie Dogane (customs officers) of the Kingdom of Sardinia. Over the years, the insignia, rank badges and equipment were increasingly brought into line with the uniform of the Alpini units of the Royal Army, especially for the officers. In 1907, the R. Guardia di Finanza finally received the five-pointed metal stars that definitively confirmed the military status of the corps. The book contains, among other things, 79 pages with colour illustrations of uniforms, headgear, ranks, badges and various items of equipment.
