Collecting military daggers is a common hobby worldwide and over the years of collecting each collector specialises in a period of time, a particular territory or the areas of use and application. The German Democratic Republic only existed for 40 years, yet there were many different honorary military daggers, award daggers and state gift daggers. These have become very popular among collectors in the last fifteen years.
Original daggers are becoming increasingly rare on the market. We only show secured originals in our books. Every dagger variant has a story, be it the manufacture, the surface finish or the reason for the issue. In addition, there are the personalities who wielded these daggers or received them as gifts for various reasons. Much of the history of GDR blank weapons is still incompletely known or researched. In addition, there is hardly any literature on this interesting field of collecting. In addition to the interest in blank weapons, it was the authors' intention to bring a part of the history of the GDR and the bearers and recipients of these honorary daggers closer to the reader. It is precisely this linking of a collector's item with history that makes the study of this subject lively and exciting. This book answers almost all the questions that go hand in hand with these blank weapons. The interested reader is provided with a work that reflects the current state of knowledge and invites him to delve deeper into these daggers and their history.
