This work, published in its first edition in 1987 and already expanded in subsequent editions in 1999 and 2008 thanks to the spontaneous sending of data, photographs and documents by numerous Italian and foreign collectors and the author's constant historical-documentary research, has gathered over the years an impressive historical and iconographic documentation in which the various Italian military blank-armed models from 1814 to the present day appear in full.
It presents an extensive repertoire from the pre-unification period and a wide variety of weapons from the knightly orders, Risorgimento volunteers, civic guards, fire brigades, diplomats, civil servants, academics, porters, squires, grooms, toy weapons, theatrical weapons, civilians of the period and Freemasonry. Also included is up-to-date information on arms used since 1945 and the never-before-discussed national and colonial cavalry lances. Up-to-date information on arms and corps, military schools, academies, military and PNF bayonets and daggers. Since 1999, further recovery of old arms and uniform regulations has made it possible to date and/or identify uncertain materials. Through the contribution of Italian antique arms auction houses, rare and even unknown variants have surfaced, enriching this fourth edition and allowing for changes, additions, corrections to the corpus and a large appendix with numerous unpublished illustrations. The author has prepared an extensive appendix containing updates and changes as well as a considerable number of previously unpublished images.
