- Thirty Years War
Description
The Thirty Years' War covered Central Europe with suffering and horror. It had begun as a religious war and ended as a European power struggle of unimaginable proportions. It ended with the largest, most complicated and longest peace congress ever held. It met halfway between Stockholm and Paris: in Osnabrück and Münster. The result, the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, is the first great milestone in modern international law. The peace treaties were written in Latin. Gerd Flemmig presents this important historical source in a bilingual edition, richly annotated and with a chronological table, map, glossary and overview of the protagonists.
Gerd Flemmig is a classical philologist and historian and works as a deputy headmaster near Freising.
