1989 went down in history as the year the Berlin Wall fell. This event set in motion a series of further historical events which, beyond the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact and the Soviet Union, marked the end of NATO large-scale manoeuvres on German soil. "Key Flight 89" was the last full-troop combat exercise of the British Army of the Rhine in which thousands of soldiers, hundreds of tracked vehicles and wheeled vehicles took part. This publication pays tribute to the British efforts of defending West Germany during the Cold War by describing the manoeuvre in detail in words and pictures.
