Prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the US Navy was already active, though its operations were limited to defensive tasks such as escorting convoys across the Atlantic. Pearl Harbor fundamentally changed this, bringing the full military might of the United States into what had become a global conflict. In the years that followed, the US Navy suffered heavy losses across all theaters of war in which it was engaged. Some of these losses were the direct result of combat operations, while others stemmed from accidents or other incidents. This richly illustrated and meticulously researched book provides a comprehensive record of all losses suffered by the US Navy during World War II.
