William R. Chorley's records of Bomber Command losses during the Second World War have been reissued and are now available in a larger format than before. All nine volumes of this legendary work will be available in this series. During the Second World War, 55,573 members of the Royal Air Force Bomber Command were killed, with a further 18,000 wounded or taken prisoner. This volume, which details 2,035 individual aircraft losses in the European theatre of war in 1942, presents them in chronological order, together with the unit, aircraft type, serial number, crew list and circumstances of the loss. This volume also corrects a long-standing misunderstanding regarding the origins of the squadrons that originally formed the Pathfinder Force (PFF). Appendices summarise the total losses by squadron and group, as well as the losses of the Operational Training Units and Conversion Flights, and contain information on the units' bases, refugees and escapees, prisoners of war and internees, as well as additions to volumes 1 and 2. The author's meticulous research in this classic work will be appreciated by historians and enthusiasts as well as the relatives and friends of the airmen concerned.
