Descriptionof Scale Model Handbook. How to Guides. Volume 3: Mastering 1/72 Military Scale Models
-
Manufacturer
Volume 3 of the "Scale Model Handbook. How To Guides Series". This book introduces the small military scale 1/72nd and 1/76th by taking the work of the master in this field, Alex Clark, as a starting point. Most people started with models and figures in 1:76 and 1:72 scales, but later turned to 1:35 and 1:32 scales for military themes and figures, or 1:48 for aeroplanes. Alex Clark has undertaken an extensive conversion for an accurate representation of a 1/72nd scale Iraqi Type 69-II main battle tank. He used the kit of a T-54B (medium production) from "AMMO Mig Jimenez" (A.MIG-8502) as a basis. The editors have decided to present all the material in detail, or at least most of the material that could be found, as much of it is no longer in production. So here they present the relevant models, photo-etched parts, brass accessories, resin tracks, decal sets, paints, weathering materials, reference books and more. Alex Clark explains in detail how to rebuild and upgrade with his home-made parts, but also with available commercial parts. 57 photos out of a total of 73 show assembly, painting and the weathering process of the vehicle. The photos are reproduced in the largest format that could be used, so you can see everything in detail. A nice addition is the detailed tour of a preserved Type 69-II command tank at the Bovington Tank Museum in the UK with 27 close-up photos. The content of the book continues with the detailed presentation of Alex Clark's used items and relevant scale models, photo-etched parts, brass accessories, resin tracks, paints, weathering materials and more. This part of the book is 36 pages long. It's like a small encyclopaedia of what's available on the market. There are 120 photos showing in detail the contents of the kits, photo-etched parts, resin tracks and parts, plastic accessories, paints, weathering materials, decals, instructions and many profiles for building some unique T-54/T-55/T-59/T-69 and all their variants. Where deemed necessary, much historical data and information has been added, such as the list of conflicts these vehicles took part in as they were in the factory, but also with conversions, upgrades and transformations made by each user.
