The typical three-colour NATO camouflage was first used in the 1980s and is still widely used today. It has become standard not only for the Bundeswehr and the US Army, but also for the military vehicles of many NATO members, such as France, the Netherlands and Turkey. The camouflage consists of a three-colour scheme of olive drab, black and brown and is one of the oldest camouflage patterns used by the largest number of countries and different vehicles. Vehicles using this camouflage include the "Leopard" 2, M1 "Abrams", M60 "Patton", "Leclerc", AMX-10, AMX-10P, VBL, PzH 2000, "Marder" 1, "Puma", "Boxer" MRAV, "Luchs", "Fennek", "Wiesel" 1 and 2, "Dingo", VCC-80 Dardo, YPR-765, the MOWAG "Piranha" series, LVTP7/AAVP7A1, M2/3 "Bradley", M113, M117, M109 and M270, among many others. This is a simple and basic guide that any modeller can use to easily achieve similar results to those found in the example models in the various magazines. These instructions can be used to correctly paint a wide range of Bundeswehr and NATO vehicles. Although a "Leopard" 2 tank was chosen as an example for this step-by-step guide, the same techniques and methods can be applied to other vehicles from the same period.
