The History of Jewish Soldiers in German Armies. Notwithstanding this discrimination, many German Jews performed their service for their fatherland in various wars. They did so with the same understanding as other Germans. Even though their deeds and achievements were respected and recognised among their comrades and beyond, the appreciation they deserved from society as a whole was not forthcoming. The impression is created that the German state took the often selfless services of Jewish soldiers for granted, but refused to recognise them for reasons of principle. From the table of contents: The history of Jewish soldiers in German armies; Emancipation and its effects on the military service of Jews; From the wars of liberation to the revolution of 1848; The period of the German wars of unification and the founding of the German Reich; In the German Empire; The First World War; In the Weimar Republic; The Wehrmacht and National Socialist tyranny; The Bundeswehr - a democratic new beginning. 267 pages.
