The two authors revive the old Potsdam of the 1930s and 40s through old Agfa colour slides. They have collected these unique photo treasures over decades and now present them to the interested reader, supplemented by photographs from other collections. In different chapters, you go on a walk through the city. You will see places and buildings that no longer exist and others that are now surrounded by a completely new environment. Some black and white photos show which events took place at places shown in colour pictures. This makes the book a real journey into the past of this extraordinary city.

Potsdam is one of the most historic places in Germany, known almost all over the world. It stands for Prussian history, architecture and extraordinary parks. Heavily destroyed in the Second World War and then reduced by further important buildings in GDR times, the city only flourished again after reunification in 1989. Much was restored, and others were lavishly rebuilt. But what did this unique city look like before the Second World War?
