In this monumental work on hand-held binoculars, the well-known expert author goes into numerous details of the legendary manufacturer Zeiss. The models and the important distinguishing features are explained with background information. The arc is spanned from the binoculars themselves to technical and functional accessories. This is not only a documentation of Zeiss binoculars. It is also a history of binoculars, because in Jena - if they were not the pacemakers themselves - they quickly adopted other developments, which are now also described here.
The topics include the wide-angle models, the coating (T-coating), the first series-produced hand-held binoculars with aspheres and the large number of forgeries from the period under review. Likewise, for example, the gas mask binoculars, marine models and submarine binoculars are presented in detail. A model list summarises all the information that could be derived from the knowledge of collectors and the now known writings. The magnificent illustrated book reveals collector's items ranging from museum rarity value to utility glasses, which are probably familiar to anyone interested in optics. Valuable information is provided on the various Zeiss hand-held binoculars from the First World War, the period between the wars until the end of 1946, in words and pictures - with great expressiveness.
