Description
This study deals with the history of a Tyrolean Landwehr troop body about which little was known until now: the "Reitenden Tiroler Landesschützen", from 1917 "Reitende Tiroler Kaiserschützen". The Reitende Tiroler Landesschützen, formed from the k.k. Landwehr, served at the end of the 19th century primarily as a mounted, mountain-mobile reporting force in the crown land of Tyrol and initially formed the backbone of Tyrolean defence with the three Tyrolean Landesschützen regiments in conjunction with the Standschützen companies.
The Riding Tyrolean Landesschützen/Kaiserschützen developed an affinity for the high mountains through the targeted adaptation of their equipment and the training of soldiers and horses, and thus became part of the k.k. Landwehr mountain troops. Landwehr mountain troops. In the First World War, the k.k. Reitenden Tiroler Landesschützen/Kaiserschützen in the Austro-Hungarian armed forces from October 1914, initially in the theatres of war on the Eastern Front against the Russian Empire, as a cavalry troop and later in the war as a dismounted high mountain unit on the Southwest Front against the Kingdom of Italy on the South Tyrol, Dolomite and Isonzo Fronts with the focus on the "Western Front of the Tyrolean Front" in wartime action until the Armistice in 1918. Since this Tyrolean body of troops - in contrast to the traditional regiments - never saw action in large formation, but their various eskadrons were integrated into large units of the Imperial and Royal Army, the study can be used as a guide. The study can be seen as a micro-history of the First World War.
