The 2nd Wing was founded in Turin on 25 December 1925 and was initially divided into three flight groups. During the Second World War, it was stationed in North Africa. In 1951, the unit was converted into an air brigade and relocated to Vicenza, then to Cameri in 1957, where it received F-86 Sabre aircraft. In 1962, it was converted back into a wing and relocated to Treviso Sant'Angelo Airport. Its flight groups were equipped with Fiat G.91 aircraft. In the early 1990s, the 14th Group (at that time the only one in the wing) was equipped with AMX aircraft, which were also used over Kosovo and Serbia. At the beginning of the 2000s, the wing began to be expanded into a missile base with the incorporation of the remote-controlled interceptor groups from Cordovaro, Bovolone and Bagnoli di Sopra, which were equipped with the Nike-Hercules missile system at the time. After 2008, the wing received two Spada missile batteries, which are currently being replaced by the Sirius system. This will be equipped with the new CAMM-ER missile as part of the MAADS missile defence system.
