In 1933 - the National Socialists had just come to power - Ernst Röhm and Hitler still seemed to be best friends. One year later, Röhm was dead. Shot on Hitler's orders in a completely illegal series of murders by the young Nazi regime, which cold-bloodedly got rid of competitors and personal enemies in order to consolidate power. The so-called "Röhm Putsch" from 30 June to 1 July 1934 was Hitler's first large-scale assassination campaign. As this act of state terrorism took place beyond all legality, all evidence was destroyed immediately afterwards, victims were buried without burial and death certificates were forged. The events are therefore among the least analysed events of the "Third Reich". The whole operation seems clandestine and dirty, like a dark spy thriller. Based on countless previously unknown documents, Sven Felix Kellerhoff writes the modern overall account of the "Night of the Long Knives".
