Description
The "Wiking" Division, formed at the end of 1940, was the first multinational division of the Waffen-SS. In addition to Germans, Flemish, Dutch and Scandinavians fought in it. From 1941 onwards, the SS artillery regiment of the "Wiking" saw action in the Ukraine and the Caucasus. At the turn of the year 1943/44, the men of the now SS Panzer Artillery Regiment 5 experienced dramatic
days in the cauldron of Cherkassy.
This was followed by the toughest defence battles against the Red Army as far as Hungary and Austria. The numerous descriptions of the experiences, of which the book is interwoven with many photos, maps and sketches, give life and colour to the regimental history.
