Description
In 2002, most of the sentences of German military courts from the Nazi era were overturned. But the discussion is not over. The view "What was right then cannot be wrong today" - with which SPIEGEL quoted the then Minister President of Baden-Württemberg Hans Filbinger in 1978 - can still be found today.
The record of the Wehrmacht courts, however, is appalling: they executed 15,000 death sentences against deserters alone and sent thousands of soldiers to certain death in "probation battalions" and punishment camps. With numerous photos, diaries, letters and documents, this volume shows that the legend of a clean Wehrmacht justice system is untenable.
