Description
Lorenzo Bovi's photographic series on the Germans in Sicily continues with this edition dedicated to Taormina, an important Luftwaffe base during World War II. It begins with a general preface and then describes in detail the various groups and locations of Germans in Taormina.
A special chapter is devoted to the German radio operator Leopold Zöttlein, who served in Taormina in 1942 and 1943. This is followed by a chapter on the Taormina airfield where the small Storch planes landed, on the secret base of the "Barchini" in Mazzarò and on the bombing of 9 July 1943, to conclude with the retreat of the Germans to Messina. As usual, the volume is fully illustrated with historical photos and colour pages. Profiles and maps complement the texts.
