From 1914 to 1918, Metz was only about 20 km from the front lines. Metz was one of the most important cities directly behind the Western Front. The city was therefore affected by the hostilities in many ways, although this is no longer a given today. After the end of the war, the return of the city and Alsace-Lorraine to France took place under often unknown conditions. To make all these particularities known, 22 members of the "Académie nationale de Metz", on the initiative of its president Gérard Nauroy, have joined forces to present to the public a work on the theme of the 1st World War in Metz and its region.
