The Seven Years' War (1756-1763) was a global conflict in which conflicts in Europe and overseas, which initially smouldered independently of each other, intertwined. On the one hand, Great Britain and France waged war in North America, the Caribbean, Africa, India and even the Philippines for colonial supremacy in the world. On the other hand, Prussia was fighting in Central European theatres against a coalition of Austria, Russia, Sweden, Saxony, some German imperial estates and France for Silesia, which had been conquered a few years earlier.
Gerhard P. Groß traces this global war, which ushered in almost two centuries of European dominance in North America, the Caribbean and the Indian subcontinent. The "Wars of the Modern Age" series, published by the Bundeswehr Centre for Military History and Social Sciences, presents the most important military conflicts of the 19th and 20th centuries according to the latest scientific findings and explains their historical causes and political consequences.
