This Mohawk fisherman must have had a strenuous fishing trip. His people are allied with England, but dark clouds are looming on the horizon. It was the Americans who destroyed the largest Mohawk settlement in 1777. It is not surprising that the fisher's fellow tribesmen, unlike many other tribes of the Iroquois League, fought on the side of the English in the War of Independence. After the end of the war, however, the Mohawk were not allowed to return to their ancestral fishing grounds.
