Centurion, or centurion ("leader of a hundred", from Latin centum=hundred), also called hecatontarch in ancient Greek sources, was the term for an officer of the Roman Empire who usually commanded a centuria ("hundred") of the Roman legion or a comparable unit of auxiliary troops.
