On June 23, 1941, an expeditionary corps (Corpo di Spedizione Italiano in Russia - CSIR) was formed in Italy to support the Wehrmacht offensive on the Eastern Front. The corps included the 359th, 362nd and 369th Squadrons of the 52nd Regiment (Stormo) of the 3rd Brigade. The main fighter fleet consisted of the then obsolete Macchi 200 Saetta.
On November 9, 1941, 371 Squadron was detached from the main group and began independent operations in the Stalino area (now Donetsk, Ukraine) to support Italian Army ground units. The onset of winter interrupted Italian aviation activity, but it is worth noting that air combat took place from December 24-26, 1941. In three engagements, the Saettes destroyed 12 enemy fighters and lost one pilot.
Most of the Macchi 200 Expeditionary Corps wore the original camouflage, called "egg camouflage" by some historians because of its specific pattern. Similar camouflage was also found on some Macchi s.202s, which were essentially a development of the s.200 and built in the same production facilities: Aeronautica Macchi and Breda.
The "RA MACCHIS OVER STALINO" kit consists of colors selected for painting the "egg" camouflage (CMPR scheme C8) of the Mackie fighter planes of the Royal Italian Air Force during WWII.
The set contains 6 10 ml paints:
- 423 Bruno Mimetico - camouflage of the tops of Italian Air Force aircraft from the World War II era.
- 428 Giallo Mimetico 4 - camouflage of the topsides of Italian Air Force aircraft from the World War II era.
- 440 Verde Mimetico 2 - Camouflage of the tops of aircraft of the Italian Air Force from the period of the Second World War
- 431 Grigio Mimetico - standard color for the underside of Italian Air Force aircraft before 1941
- 424 Giallo Cromo 7 - markings and designations. Standard quick identification color for Axis aircraft on the Eastern Front.
- 422 Bianco Neve 6 - Identification and marking paint. Standard identification color for aircraft of the Italian Air Force and Axis forces in the Mediterranean area.
Recommended for models:
- Macchi M.C. 200 Saetta
- Macchi M.C. 202 Folgore and others.
