This set includes 12 acrylic paints specially selected to provide the essential tones for accurately painting Red Army tanks during World War II.
The IONIC WWII Soviet Tanks 19391945 set includes 12 carefully selected acrylic paints designed to reproduce the characteristic colors and camouflage schemes used on Soviet armored vehicles throughout the Second World War. Covering the period from the late 1930s to 1945, this set provides the essential tones needed to paint everything from early-war disruptive camouflage patterns to the familiar 4BO protective green, as well as winter washable white finishes and Lend-Lease vehicles in Soviet service.
During this period, Soviet armored vehicles appeared in several distinct finishes depending on the year, theatre of operations, and battlefield conditions. In the pre-war and early-war years, 2-tone disruptive camouflage and 3-tone disruptive camouflage schemes combined green, brown, and sand tones in broad, irregular patterns intended to break up the silhouette of the vehicle. As the war progressed, 4BO protective green became the standard base color on most Soviet tanks and self-propelled guns, while temporary washable white was commonly applied in winter and gradually worn away through use. This set reflects that variety by including the key tones needed to recreate deep green bases, standard Soviet green finishes, early-war camouflage patterns, and olive drab Lend-Lease vehicles in Soviet service.
Beyond the main camouflage colors, the set also includes all the essential auxiliary tones needed to complete a vehicle convincingly. Graveyard Earth is ideal for wooden tool handles and stowage details, Ivory works perfectly for tactical markings and identification stripes, and Blood Red is included for stars, slogans, and other distinctive markings. For weathering and finishing touches, Cardinal Purple provides a rich dark tone for subtle chipping effects, while Black Metal is ideal for tracks, tools, and exposed steel parts.
