The Il-62 was the ?SA?s first long-haul jet aircraft and heralded the start of the airline?s intercontinental flights, including the Prague?New York route via Montreal, which was launched in 1970. Throughout its history, ?SA operated a total of 21 aircraft from the Il-62 family between 1969 and 1997, including six modernised Il-62Ms. OK-JBJ was delivered to ?SA in 1979. It was part of the second batch of upgraded Il-62Ms operated by the Czechoslovak airline. Whilst in service with ?SA, OK-JBJ formed part of the airline?s long-haul fleet and was briefly operated by the Hungarian airline Malév under a leasing agreement (also released by Herpa under item number 573047). Following its withdrawal from service in 1996, it was used by Bemoair for charter flights before being sold to the Cambodian airline Yana Airlines, which, however, never put the aircraft into service: It was transferred to the United Arab Emirates, never actually reached Cambodia, and was scrapped years later in Ra?s Al-Khaimah.
