First produced in 1968, the Tatra 148 replaced its predecessor, the Tatra 138, in 1972 only after the latter's production was discontinued. Externally, the Tatra 148 differed only in the somewhat more angular design of its typical round bonnet. Technically, the new model series had, among other things, an increased engine output of 210 hp and a higher payload, which was increased from 12 tonnes in the Tatra 138 to 15 tonnes in the Tatra 148. Like its predecessor, the Tatra 148 was delivered almost exclusively as a three-axle vehicle with all-wheel drive. A total of 113,647 units of the Tatra 148 were produced in all its variants until production was discontinued in 1982, which is clear proof of the technical quality and success of this Tatra series.
