The USS Thresher (SSN-593) was a nuclear-powered submarine of the United States Navy and belonged to the Thresher class named after her. Commissioned in 1961, the boat was lost during dive tests on 10 April 1963 about 350 kilometres off Cape Cod on the east coast of the United States, killing 129 people. This made the Thresher the first nuclear submarine to be sunk.
