Model-making classics with history and passion
For decades, Glencoe Models has been synonymous with classic model making with character and history. The US company specialises in reissuing historical plastic model kits. These model-making treasures include old kits ranging from aeroplanes and spacecraft to historical vehicles. Glencoe Models preserves tradition and history through its reissues, making them available to collectors and model builders. Glencoe Models history and passion since 1987 Glencoe Models was founded in 1987 by Nick Argento, a passionate model builder and collector from Maryland (USA). Argento began model building in the 1970s and realised early on that many classic injection moulds from the 1950s to 1970s were in danger of disappearing forever. With the founding of Glencoe Models, he pursued the goal of saving, restoring and reissuing these old historical moulds so that they would also be accessible to a new generation of model builders. Nick Argento is therefore still considered a pioneer of retro model building today: He acquired old moulds from manufacturers such as ITC, Aurora, Strombecker, Lindberg and Revell, carefully reworked them and reintroduced them to the market under the Glencoe Models label. To this day, Argento personally manages the company and puts his heart and soul into selecting, ensuring the quality and presenting the kits in the family business.
Glencoe nostalgia and history
What makes Glencoe Models so unique is the combination of nostalgic charm and historical authenticity. While many manufacturers focus on perfection and new high-gloss moulds, Glencoe stands for the old model-making philosophy: the joy of building, learning and discovering.
At a glance:
- Original moulds with history: Many injection moulds date back to the 1950s and 1960s and have been carefully restored by Nick Argento.
- Diversity and range of themes: From early aviation pioneers to science fiction projects, Glencoe covers themes that others have long forgotten.
- Collector's value: Many editions are only published in small quantities and are quickly snapped up by enthusiasts and vintage fans.
Nick Argento sees Glencoe as a tribute to the beginnings of model making and a project that thrives on its history, technology and passion.
