The RMS Titanic was a passenger ship owned by the British shipping company White Star Line. She was built in Belfast at the Harland & Wolff shipyard and was the largest ship in the world when she entered service on 2 April 1912.
As the second of three Olympic-class steamers, she was intended, like her sister ships, for liner service on the Southampton-Cherbourg-Queenstown-New York, New York-Plymouth-Cherbourg-Southampton route and was to set new standards in travel comfort. On her maiden voyage, Titanic collided sideways with an iceberg about 300 nautical miles southeast of Newfoundland at about 11:40 p.m.[1] on 14 April 1912 and sank two hours and 40 minutes later in the North Atlantic. -Wikipedia-
